Playing Poker

I was surprised at how much money I have made just by playing poker. Now, I’m not saying that I am filthy rich or that I can quit my day job. But, I am saying that I am making enough money to pay for all those extras I want in life: nice clothes, fine restaurants, vacations, etc. What I love about playing poker online is that I can play at anytime (late in the night or early in the morning, etc) and in my pyjamas. So, how do I do it? I’m willing to share with you what works for me.

Do your research

First of all, I take poker very seriously. I did my research, read some books, and played with my friends. I even brought computer software so I could learn all of the different types of games. I practiced forming the best hands and betting. To be successful at poker, you must remember that it is a game of strategy. I always try to be thinking 2 steps ahead of my competition.

Consider your options

I am patient and observant. I do not hurry my decisions and I watch my opponent’s body language. I also try to be aware of which cards have been picked from the community pile and which have been discarded. The fact is, the better you are at doing math in your head, the more of an advantage you have over your opponents. I learned to be a great actress. I have won many hands when I had absolutely nothing to play with. I did it by bluffing.

Vary your poker room

Try several different poker rooms before deciding on the one that is right for you. Choose a poker room that has a large variety of players both beginners and pros. I started out playing with other beginners while I built up my skill and bankroll. As both of the latter increased, I played against more advance players and winning big pots.

Poker takes time

I took my time building up my bankroll. A big mistake that new players make is that they want to immediately enter into high stakes games, only to get in way over their head. Bet with the attitude that you are only go to lay on the line an amount that you can live without.

Play as many Sit n’ Gos as possible. This is where I really learned how to play poker. I was surprised at how soon I started winning. Do not be discouraged if at first you don’t succeed. Remember practice makes perfect.

Take advantage of promotions, matching bonuses, and guarantees.

You should shop around when wanting to earn cash. Just as when doing your everyday shopping, you look for the stores with the best prices and sales. The same is true with poker rooms. Take advantage of everything offered to both save you money and increase your chances of winning.

Well, there you have it. It may sound like a lot but really it isn’t. Just remember to take it seriously, be prepared to accept that there will be losses, and spend your money wisely.
